Neural mechanisms, modulation and development of vertebrate locomotor control networks.

Professor Keith Sillar’s lab at the University of St Andrews is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher with a proven track record in neuroscience research.

The appointee will engage in projects relating to the fundamental properties of neurons and connections that constitute spinal motor control networks, their modulation and development. I am particularly keen to appoint someone interested in pursuing research on the dynamic contributions of sodium pumps to spinal network output, primarily in Xenopus frog tadpoles but also in neonatal mice and zebrafish.

The project will apply cutting edge electrophysiological and imaging techniques to spinal circuits generating rhythmic locomotor output with the research potentially being tailored to the specific interests and skills of the successful applicant.

Professor Sillar’s lab has current collaborations with Dr Gareth Miles (St Andrews) and zebrafish labs in Edinburgh and further afield.

This position is fixed term for 3 years.

For informal enquiries please contact Professor Keith Sillar (kts1@st-andrews.ac.uk).

Applications are particularly welcome from women, who are under-represented in Research posts at the University.  You can find out more about Equality & Diversity at https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/hr/edi/
