Tree-Ring Laboratory Technician - TG1139HM

We are seeking a tree-ring technician to work on a BNP-Parabas funded project entitled “The mystery of the expanding tropics: from past to future (THEMES)”. The role of the successful applicant will include:

1.    Sample preparation following lab standard protocols.
2.    Scanning and archiving of sample images
3.    Sample image analysis using CooRecorder with crossdating validation using Cdendro and COFECHA
4.    Development of ring-width, Blue Intensity and Delta Blue tree-ring parameters.
5.    Basic analyses to assess data and dating quality
6.    Data organisation archiving
7.    Basic upkeep of the tree-ring laboratory, including ordering of relevant consumables

Attributes and skills for the position include a BSc in a relevant Earth Science degree and have specific experience in dendrochronological laboratory methods. Desirable skills will involve dendrochronological field sampling, sample archiving, core sample preparation for scanning, confidence in the use of CooRecorder, CDendro and COFECHA to ensure that all data generated (ring-width, Blue Intensity and Delta Blue) are correctly dated.

This 18-month technician position is aimed at recent graduates who want to gain more laboratory experience before continuing towards a Masters or PhD.
