Research Fellow in Photonics - AR2001SB

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral Research Fellow to work on an EPSRC-funded project. The work is based within the Optical Manipulation Group in the School of Physics and Astronomy (see https://opticalmanipulationgroup.wp.st-andrews.ac.uk).  The group aims to build upon a range of internationally recognised work in the area of photonics and its applications at St Andrews. The specific topic area is in the use of shaped light for new studies of optical manipulation of microscopic and nanoscopic particles in liquid, air and vacuum. The post is for one year in the first instance but with scope for extension.

The post-holder will be required to undertake both experimental work and numerical studies. They will play a leading role in implementing new optical trap geometries, particle synthesis and studies in both fundamental aspects of trapping relating to optomechanics as well as in biophysics.

Informal enquiries (NOT full applications) to: Professor Kishan Dholakia, kd1@st-andrews.ac.uk, tel: 01334 463184.

Applications are particularly welcome from women, who are under-represented in research posts at the University.  You can find out more about Equality & Diversity at https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/hr/edi/.
