Instrumentation Technician – TG1028MR

The Sea Mammal Research Unit’s Instrumentation Group (SMRU-IG) is seeking an electronic technician to play a critical role in the assembly and testing of telemetry equipment. The job primarily involves assembly of electronic telemetry devices, fault-finding and diagnosis at device and PCB level, encapsulation and environmental calibration and testing. In addition, the post holder will generally assist in the production and development of novel telemetry systems.

The post holder should be self-motivated and be able to work with minimal supervision. Electronic workshop skills (including soldering) are essential. They must be able to graphically present, interpret and document performance test data. Experience in electronic encapsulation is desirable. They must have a high attention to detail and a methodical approach to fault finding and diagnosis. Finally, they must be able to integrate into a small, friendly and hard-working team.

This is a three-year post in the first instance, with possibility of extension.
