Lecturer in Applied Mathematics – AC1856MR

We seek to appoint an outstanding candidate as Lecturer in Mathematical Biology within the School of Mathematics and Statistics. You will be a scholar with a growing international research reputation in Mathematical Biology and commitment to delivering high quality teaching within the broad field of Applied Mathematics. The successful candidate will be expected to have a range of interests, to be active in research publication that strengthens or complements those in the School and to be capable of teaching the subject to undergraduate and taught postgraduate students from a wide range of backgrounds.

Following the recent appointment of Mark Chaplain to the Gregory Chair and the creation of the Mathematical Biology Research Group within the School, the University is continuing to invest in and support this area. The successful candidate will join the School at an exciting time and be part of shaping the future development, strategy and growth of the new research group. There is an expected commitment to interact with colleagues in the Schools of Biology and Medicine and also the James Hutton Institute (http://www.hutton.ac.uk), and develop interdisciplinary collaborative research projects in the areas of mathematical/computational biology, medicine and theoretical ecology. It is also intended that the lecturer will be involved in the development and running of the new MSc degree programme in Mathematical Biology, which will commence in September 2019.

Candidates should hold a PhD in a cognate discipline. Excellent teaching skills and an interest in promoting knowledge exchange are essential. You should also have some familiarity with grant seeking processes in relation to research councils and other sources.

For informal enquiries, we encourage those considering applying to contact the Head of School, Professor Thomas Neukirch (mathshos@st-andrews.ac.uk), the Deputy Head of School, Professor Ineke De Moortel (idm2@st-andrews.ac.uk) and/or the Head of the Mathematical Biology Research Group, Professor Mark Chaplain (majc@st-andrews.ac.uk) to discuss possibilities.

The University is committed to equality for all, demonstrated through our working on diversity awards (ECU Athena SWAN/Race Charters; Carer Positive; LGBT Charter; and Stonewall). More details can be found at http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/hr/edi/diversityawards/.
