We wish to appoint an Associate Lecturer in
Biology within the School of Biology for 18 months in the first instance.
This appointment is an opportunity for a
person interested in teaching Biology at tertiary level to be employed to make
a major input to our teaching programmes, both in teaching and in the
development and co-ordination of the programmes.
Associate Lecturers have an increasingly
important role within the University, and there is a developed career
structure. The post holder will be expected to contribute significantly to a
range of teaching within the School, including lecture-based modules and
small-group teaching from first year to masters level. The successful candidate
also will support the Director of Teaching and module organisers with the
organisation of the School’s lab demonstrators as well as supporting students
within the laboratory practicals.
Candidates should hold a PhD in Biology or a
closely allied discipline and have proven abilities in teaching life sciences,
particularly in teaching life science practicals. The candidate must also have
successful experience of developing teaching materials, designing teaching
programmes and must be able to demonstrate commitment to teaching, promoting knowledge
exchange and development of the student learning experience. You will be
comfortable leading a team and functioning as a team member and will be able to
demonstrate experience of engaging confidently with students.
Informal enquiries can be directed to School's
Acting Director of Teaching Dr. Jacqueline Nairn, email biodot@st-andrews.ac.uk.
Applications
are particularly welcome from women, people from the Black, Asian, Minority or
Ethnic (BAME) community and other protected characteristics who are
under-represented in Academic posts at the University.
The University is
committed to equality for all, demonstrated through our working on diversity
awards (ECU Athena SWAN/Race Charters; Carer Positive; LGBT Charter; and
