We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated Research Fellow to work on two national projects focusing on adolescent health and wellbeing: the Health Behaviour of School-aged Children (HBSC) Scotland study and the Scottish Schools Health Research Network (SHRN) project. HBSC is an international study of adolescent health and wellbeing conducted in 48 countries across Europe and North America in collaboration with the World Health Organisation. The SHRN project is funded through an MRC Mental Health Data Pathfinder award and aims to develop a data platform to support research and health improvement in Scottish schools, with a specific focus on mental health. The main duties of the post will include analysis of data from the 2018 Scottish HBSC survey, desk research, quantitative and qualitative data collection in schools, and contributing to the writing of reports and academic papers in collaboration with other members of the team.
The successful candidate will be based within the Child and Adolescent Health Research Unit (CAHRU) within the School of Medicine, but will also work closely with colleagues at the University of Glasgow and the University of Cardiff. They will also have the opportunity to work with international colleagues through the HBSC international research network.
Applicants should have experience in both quantitative and qualitative methods and the ability to undertake statistical analysis independently. S/he should have particular knowledge of adolescent mental health and wellbeing, as well as experience of writing up research results in reports and academic publications, and excellent written and oral communication skills.
The post is full-time and available for 18 months.
