Research Fellows – AR2203MR

The University of St Andrews and the Templeton Foundation are funding two Research Fellowships in the Logos Institute for Analytic and Exegetical Theology. Each fellowship is for a period of one year starting in June 2019.

The Logos Institute is within the School of Divinity in the University of St Andrews, which is an internationally renowned centre of excellence. The establishment of the Logos Institute is the result of a generous grant from the Templeton Religion Trust and matched funding from the University of St Andrews. In addition to its Director, the Reader and a fixed term Lecturer, there are five, part-time, Professorial Fellows: Professors Oliver Crisp, C. Stephen Evans, Peter van Inwagen, Tom McCall and Michael Rea.

The institute is directed by Professor A. J. Torrance who oversees the Institute’s work in analytic theology and its interdisciplinary aim of bringing theology, Biblical exegesis and philosophy into constructive engagement. The institutes Co-PI and lecturer is Dr Andrew B Torrance. Professor N.T. Wright oversees the exegetical input. Several other biblical scholars and theologians from Divinity also participate in the institute’s research.

Fellowships will be awarded to carry out research in order to write two journal articles in the following subject areas: 1. The relationship of God to time and history;
2. Personhood: divine and human;
3. Forgiveness and Reconciliation: divine and human;
4. Human uniqueness and purposiveness.

Applicants should be familiar with the principles and commitments of analytic theology and be interested in engaging in it. They should also be committed to constructive interdisciplinary engagement spanning theology, analytic philosophy, Biblical studies and the sciences. A capacity to make an immediate contribution to the publications output of the Institute is essential. In accordance with the funding from the Logos Institute’s Templeton Religious Trust grant, it is desirable that applicants be students of the Logos Institute who have committed to submit their doctoral dissertations for examination before the start date. However, we are open to applications from persons external to the Logos Institute.

The fellowships will be for a period of one year starting from 1 June 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.
