Research Fellow (Stellar magnetic fields) – AR2465MR

The Astronomy Group at the University of St Andrews (Scotland, UK) is seeking an ambitious postdoctoral researcher to work on stellar magnetic fields with Prof. Moira Jardine to start September 2021. The project will include modelling stellar magnetospheric structure and dynamics, including wind angular momentum loss and prominence formation and ejection.

The candidate is expected to have a PhD in astronomy with relevant experience in the field of stellar magnetohydrodynamics. The position will involve collaboration with researchers in several consortia including Bcool, SPIROU and Matysse. The position includes funding for travel.

The School of Physics & Astronomy of the University of St Andrews offers a vibrant and interactive working environment, with a high proportion of women. For more information about the Astronomy group, see https://astronomy.wp.st-andrews.ac.uk.

Applications should include a 2-page CV, publication list, and a statement (max. 3 pages) of research interests. This should include a summary of past research achievements and statement of future plans. Details of two referees should be provided and letters of reference will be requested following long-listing.

Applications are particularly welcome from women, people from the Black, Asian, Minority or Ethnic (BAME) community and other protected characteristics who are under-represented in research posts at the University.

The School of Physics and Astronomy has achieved Champion status, in the Institute of Physics's Project Juno initiative, which recognises and rewards action to address the under-representation of women in UK and Irish universities and to embed better working practices for all staff.

The University is committed to equality for all, demonstrated through our working on diversity awards (ECU Athena SWAN/Race Charters; Carer Positive; LGBT Charter; and Stonewall). More details can be found at http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/hr/edi/diversityawards/.
