We are seeking to appoint a Post-Doctoral Research
Fellow to work on the ESRC-funded project, ‘The social, cultural and economic impacts of the pandemic on
ethnic and racialised groups’, within the Centre on the Dynamics of Ethnicity
(CoDE). The Research Fellow will work on the Housing and Welfare Policy strand
of the project which is led by Dr Nissa Finney, with Dr Sharon Leahy, Dr James
Rhodes (Manchester) and Professor Nasar Meer (Edinburgh).
The successful applicant
will take a leading role in CoDE’s Housing and Welfare Policy strand, led by St
Andrews. They will have responsibility for contributing to methodological
design, conducting fieldwork, analysing data, maintaining relationships with
partner organisations, writing up results and undertaking public engagement and
impact tasks.
This is an excellent
opportunity for a dynamic and dedicated researcher to work in a leading team of
researchers on a topic of high social relevance. The Housing and Welfare Policy strand will examine how housing provision
is enacted and experienced differentially across places and minority and
migrant groups. The project will examine the multi-scalar nature of welfare
governance at a time of state rescaling and devolved government; and will
identify how best to respond to housing inequalities.
The Research Fellow on this project (together with
the project academics and a Research Fellow based at the University of
Manchester) will undertake fieldwork in Glasgow and/or Manchester with
residents and housing providers. They will analyse collected data, lead in presentation of articles for
publication and contribute to the delivery of our impact plan.
The candidate should have
a PhD in a social science or closely related discipline, experience in
collecting and handling qualitative field data and conducting analysis. Good
communication and management skills are essential.
The post is available until
August 2022, with a possibility for the Fellow to be in post as soon as
possible.
Informal enquiries can be directed to: Dr
Nissa Finney, Nissa.Finney@st-andrews.ac.uk or Professor Nasar Meer, Nasar.Meer@ed.ac.uk.
Applications are particularly welcome from
women, people from the Black, Asian, Minority or Ethnic (BAME) community and
other protected characteristics who are under-represented in Science posts at
the University.
