Research Fellow in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics - AR2143MR
School of Physics and Astronomy
Vacancy Description
School of Physics and Astronomy, Salary: £33,199 - £36,261 per annum, Start Date: As soon as possible/negotiable, Fixed term for up to 2 years
As part of an EPSRC research program we are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral research fellow to explore the phase diagram of quantum materials / strongly correlated electron systems under uniaxial strain in strong collaboration with scanning tunnelling microscopy experiments [1].

The experiments, utilising magnetotransport at ultralow temperatures and high magnetic field, are part of a wider research program within the Condensed Matter group at the School of Physics and Astronomy to explore novel phenomena in strongly correlated electron systems including experimental efforts and theoretical collaborations with key efforts centred around the Centre for Designer Quantum Materials  (, complemented by established collaborations with the universities of Bristol, Edinburgh, London and Oxford, the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Diamond, Max Planck Institutes for Solid State Research (Stuttgart, Germany) and Chemical Physics of Solids (Dresden, Germany) as well as Cornell University (USA).

The scientific focus of the research program will be on phenomena related to superconductivity, topologically nontrivial band structures and magnetic phases in which the groups have longstanding experience [1-5]. The candidate must have a PhD in experimental physics at the time of the start date, an excellent knowledge of solid state physics, and ideally direct experience of high precision measurements and/or on sub-K low temperature experiments.

The post is fixed term for up to 2 years.
