Details
The University of St Andrews is seeking a dynamic, innovative individual with extensive experience of public engagement with science to be our Public Engagement Officer. This is a fixed term post for 2 years in the first instance.
The successful applicant will pioneer a programme of engagement activities designed to inspire interest, stimulate debate, and engage in dialogue with public groups about the future of the University’s research. You will inspire and lead academic colleagues throughout the University in engaging with public groups, and work closely with the University Offices to embed public engagement within the broader University strategy. The large engagement activities will relate specifically to biomedical science (broadly defined) but the role will also involve coordinating activities which are open to researchers in other disciplines.
You will be educated to degree level in a science subject. You will have extensive experience of working in public engagement with science, and of managing projects and events successfully. You will have excellent communication skills and be a skilled user of social media. You will be highly self-motivated, able to work alone and in concert with others, and capable of working with people at all levels of seniority. A postgraduate qualification – in science communication, public engagement, or another relevant subject – would be desirable.
