Student Services, Salary: £31,656 - £37,768 per annum, pro rata, Start Date: As soon as possible, Hours of Work: 40 weeks per year
Details
Student Services provides a comprehensive welfare and support service for students; comprising counselling and support advice, immigration, disability, finance, academic and mental health co-ordination. It also organizes the front door information service of the University through the Advice and Support Centre, and offers pastoral support in halls of residence through the Warden Service. We aim to provide sector-leading services, tailored to meet the requirements of the University and flexible enough to respond to changing circumstances.

We require a qualified full-time Counsellor to work 40 weeks p.a. during semesters to contribute to the provision of counselling to students.  The unit does not offer long term therapy, but focusses mainly on CBT approaches to assist and empower the student to continue productively in their studies. The counselling team also contributes to the delivery of a range of workshops.

The current Counselling team comprises people from a variety of different professional disciplines who additionally have PG counselling qualifications.  They work within the wider Student Services team, at times undertaking joint work with Specialist advisers in Student Services (e.g. Finance, Immigration and Support Advisers).

As a Counsellor you will require initiative, resilience, attention to detail and confidence. You will also have the ability to relate with students, staff and external stakeholders in an articulate, cheerful and professional manner.  You will have a recognized PG qualification in counselling or psychotherapy to at least diploma level, have substantial experience of delivering counselling in a Higher Educational setting and will be working towards accreditation or have accreditation with BABCP or BACP.

You will have worked in a multi-disciplinary environment and be willing to share information with your colleagues in a professional and collaborative manner. An ability to remain calm under pressure, work in a fast paced environment and to prioritize work is vital. The successful candidate will be joining a dynamic, forward thinking service, working alongside highly qualified, experienced and motivated colleagues.

This post will be working 40 weeks per annum.
