Details
Following from our recent excellent outcome from REF2014, the Department of Geography and Sustainable Development at St Andrews invites applications for two posts: (i) a Professorship (or Readership) in Human Geography specializing in population and/or health research; (ii) a Professorship in Environmental Change (Physical Geography).  Our desire is to appoint individuals with outstanding research capacity, who share our vision of undertaking world-leading research.

Professorship/Readership in Human Geography (Population and/or Health)
Expertise in quantitative methods may be an advantage, but qualitative and mixed-methods researchers are also encouraged to apply. You will have the opportunity to engage with staff working on two large, externally-funded initiatives: the Centre for Population Change (http://www.cpc.ac.uk/) and the Census and Administrative Data Longitudinal Studies hub (http://calls.ac.uk/). You will also contribute to the Geography teaching programme as appropriate.

Professorship in Environmental Change (Physical Geography) – See SB1851

You will have a PhD in Geography or a cognate discipline and a proven track record as an influential research leader in your field. Having experience of winning external funding from RCUK or equivalent sources and of managing a research team is desirable for the Readership and essential for the Professorships.

Informal enquiries are very welcome, and may be made to Prof Colin Hunter (Head of Department/co-Head of School; ch69@st-andrews.ac.uk); Prof Allan Findlay (Allan.M.Findlay@st-andrews.ac.uk) or Prof Elspeth Graham (efg@st-andrews.ac.uk).  See http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/gsd/ for further information on staff research interests and recent publications.

Successful candidates will be expected to start as soon as possible and not later than January 2016.

Applications are particularly welcome from women who are under-represented in this field at the University.  You can find out more about Equality & Diversity at https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/hr/edi/.

The University of St Andrews is committed to promoting equality of opportunity for all, which is further demonstrated through its working on the Gender and Race Equality Charters and being awarded the Athena SWAN award for women in science, HR Excellence in Research Award and the LGBT Charter;  http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/hr/edi/diversityawards/.
