Title
Research Fellow in Nanophotonics - SB1997
Vacancy Description
School of Physics and Astronomy, Salary: £30,424-£33,230 per annum, Start: As soon as possible, Fixed term for 12 months
Details
We are seeking to appoint a member of contract research staff within the Nanophotonics Group of the School of Physics & Astronomy at the University of St Andrews, to work on a Scottish Enterprise Proof of Concept project.  A person with excellent practical skills is sought to lead the work on optoelectronic device development, electronic design and packaging.

The project targets the formation of a start-up company at the project end and it is expected the successful candidate would transition to the company at this stage. Experience in a commercial environment would be of benefit and a desire to work in a company is required. An entrepreneurial candidate is sought not someone seeking to remain in an academic position.

The purpose of this position is to realise photonic device demonstrators (as part of a wider team) that will be a platform for the attraction of investment and formation of a startup company. The minimum qualification is a Bachelor’s degree in Physics or Electrical Engineering.  A higher degree or equivalent industrial experience is an advantage if the experience is directly relevent to the packaging and testing of optical sensors or telecom components.

The post is available immediately and will be offered for an initial 12 months on a full time basis, with the possibility of an extension.

For further information, please contact Dr William Whelan-Curtin, School of Physics and Astronomy, University of St Andrews by email at: jww1@st-andrews.ac.uk.
