Details
A research position funded by the Leverhulme Trust will be available from 5 January 2016, or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is part of a collaboration with Prof Paul Barlow (Biology/Chemistry) in Edinburgh. While a start date in January 2016 is preferable, flexibility in the start date (up to 31 March 2016) will be given for exceptional candidates. The position will be for one year. Working with Dr Georg Haehner, you will work upon the investigation of ultrathin organic films that can serve as model systems in relation to the human immune system (vertebrate complement system).

The successful applicant is expected to have experience in surface science in general, surface preparation and characterization or surface analysis, with previous experience in surface preparation and characterization, in particular atomic force microscopy, preferred. Applications are encouraged from candidates with either previous post-doctoral experience, or who will have submitted a PhD thesis prior to taking up the appointment. The successful candidate must be able to interact with other workers in the lab at St Andrews as well as in Edinburgh, and give direction to, a PhD student working within this area, and be willing to take leadership in the day-to-day running of the laboratory.
