Lecturer in Physical Geography (Glaciology) - AC1926SB
School of Geography & Geosciences,
Department of Sustainable Development,
Salary: £38,896 - £47,801 per annum,
Start: As soon as possible; not later than 1 September 2016
The Department of Geography and Sustainable Development has recently invested in the field of glaciology, appointing a new Professor (Doug Benn) in January 2016. We are now seeking to appoint a suitably-qualified person to a new lectureship in glaciology. Ideally, we are looking for someone who has interests and expertise in the fields of glacier dynamics and remote sensing, but talented researchers in all fields of glaciology are welcome to apply.
You will join the Environmental Change Research Group at a time of significant new investment in this area; details of our research can be found at http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/gsd/research/ecrg/. We are seeking to develop glaciological research in the Department, especially into glacier response to climate change and its impact on global sea level.
The new appointment will also contribute to developing and delivering courses in physical geography, environmental change, including glaciology and cryospheric science. Experience of teaching field techniques (e.g. mass balance measurements, GPS, GPR) and computer-based methods (e.g. data processing, remote sensing and GIS) will be an advantage.
The starting date for the position is flexible, but as soon as possible and no later than 1st September 2016.
Informal enquiries to: Professor Doug Benn (
