A post-doctoral fellowship is available immediately to work in the Soft Matter Photonics Lab of Professor Malte Gather.

We are a dynamic and creative group that develops new and innovative photonic tools for the life sciences.  Since 2010, Prof Gather and his team have published over 70 papers, including nine in Nature or Science titled journals.  The group is widely known for its work on organic LEDs and biological laser. (Prof Gather’s original report on the ‘living laser’ was recognised by Institute of Physics as one of the Top 10 Breakthroughs in Physics.)

Within the fellowship you will develop and optimize OLEDs to be used in biophotonics, in particular as light sources for optogenetics. You will work in the School’s recently opened clean room facility with new state-of-the-art equipment for vacuum-based OLED fabrication. We operate several modern optics labs that allow device characterization and pilot testing of OLEDs in biophotonics. We also have a number of active national and international collaborations, including with groups at University of Cambridge, Columbia University, TU Dresden etc.
 
You should hold a PhD in physics, physical chemistry, material sciences, electrical engineering or a related subject and have hands-on experience in fabrication and characterization of organic semiconductor based devices.  Experience in one or more of the following is expected: vacuum processing, doping of organic semiconductors and/or OLED.  Initiative and eagerness to work at the interface between disciplines and to explore new fields of research is essential.
