Details

IT Services is looking for a well-motivated and technically qualified individual with experience in a variety of client/server based computer systems in addition to knowledge of Library processes, to join our Enterprise Application Services Team.

In supporting a busy library serving the needs of a major research-led university with a strong international reputation for excellence, we require a highly-motivated self-starter able to cope under pressure who has a high level of interpersonal and customer service skills and an understanding of best practice IT processes.   As the Library Application Services Manager, you will be accountable for all aspects of service provision, including Service Management, Incident and Problem Management, Continuous Service Improvement, Change Management etc. and will be the focal point and owner of Library customer IT issues until resolution.  IT Services is evolving and developing its approach to service delivery in accordance with best practice, and you are expected to have experience of operating within an ITIL framework and have or be willing to obtain ITIL V3 Foundation qualification.

You will hold a relevant IT related degree or PG qualification (or extensive equivalent experience) and should have the ability to provide 1st and 2nd line technical support services for a wide variety of computer-based activities.  You will support a significant number of installed and developing systems including software to manage the digital and print assets in the University Special Collections Department and the Library Management System (currently Innovative Interfaces’ Millennium). You will provide vital technical and application support to all the teams in the Library either directly or via third-party supplier relationships, and will have the ability to communicate effectively with staff who have a varied range of technical knowledge.

You will be located in and work closely with colleagues in the University’s IT Services, helping and collaborating with them on the delivery of critical support for projects within the Library; increasingly, Library systems are being integrated with other University systems.  The post-holder must maintain a broad overview of the Library systems architecture and be able to provide advice and recommendations on strategic investment needs and development.

Ideally, you will have knowledge of library-based IT systems and experience of flexibly managing a broad range of computer systems and hardware in a Library or similar office-based environment.  You will have experience in the management of server-based applications, ideally on a variety of platforms.

There is a significant ongoing programme of change activity at the University including a major upgrade or replacement of the core Library Management System planned for summer 2017.  Procurement is likely to be via a framework from vendors such as Ex Libris, Innovative and OCLC.  You will be involved in all IT-related Library projects, leading and implementing some; thus project management experience (and ideally certification: e.g. PRINCE2 and/or DSDM Agile) is a must.

You may be expected to line manage a deputy in due course.
