Director of the Scottish Oceans Institute
Vacancy Description
School of Biology, Start: As soon as possible
Details
We are seeking to appoint an outstanding scientific leader to be the new Director of the Scottish Oceans Institute (SOI) at the University of St Andrews.  The Director will also be awarded a Chair in Marine Biology at the University.

The SOI is a path-breaking, inter-disciplinary institute that serves as a focus for all the research and postgraduate teaching in marine sciences within St Andrews.  Backed by the University’s international reputation for scientific excellence, the Institute is benefitting from a substantial programme of capital investment that will see the building of a new aquarium and research facility by 2016/7.

As Director, you will provide academic leadership across the field of marine science, identifying new research directions, attracting funding, and building partnerships nationally and internationally.  Outstanding leadership and research credentials, alongside a broad scientific perspective, are the key requirements of the role: significant funding will be available for the appointee to set-up a research group. Applications are welcomed from academic leaders in all areas of marine science with biological dimensions.

The University of St Andrews is committed to promoting equality of opportunity for all, which is further demonstrated through its working on the Gender and Race Equality Charters and being awarded the Athena SWAN award for women in science, HR Excellence in Research Award and the LGBT Charter;  http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/hr/edi/diversityawards/.

Applications are particularly welcome from women who are under-represented in science posts at the University. You can find out more about Equality and Diversity at https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk.hr.edi/.
