The School of History is seeking to appoint a Research Fellow on the research project “The Islamisation of Anatolia, c. 1100-1500” (ERC FP7 grant 284076 see https://www.islam-anatolia.ac.uk). The successful candidate will possess or be in the final stages of completing a PhD in an aspect of pre-modern Middle Eastern/Islamic Studies and have a good knowledge of Old Anatolian Turkish and/or Persian and experience of working with Islamic manuscripts. The principal duties of the successful candidate will be to publish research on an aspect of the spread of Islamic religion, literature or culture, broadly interpreted, in Anatolia and/or the Ottoman lands prior to c. 1500; and to assist in the collection of codicological information on Islamic manuscripts from Anatolia and the Ottoman lands prior to c. 1500 for inclusion in a database which will be one of the project’s outputs.

The post will be available for eighteen months in the first instance from 1 January 2015 (start date negotiable) and we will also consider applications for part time working.  Applications from scholars with backgrounds in history, literature or religious studies equally welcome.
