Title
Research Fellow in Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics - AR1703KC
Vacancy Description
School of Physics and Astronomy, Salary: £31,342 - £35,256 per annum, Start: 1 November 2015 or as soon as possible thereafter, Duration of post: Fixed until 30 August 2017
Details
As part of the EPSRC sponsored programme grant “Hybrid Polaritonics”, we are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work in the first instance with Jonathan Keeling, on the theory of polaritons in hybrid organic microcavities, with a particular focus on the physics of organic molecules in the presence of strong matter-light coupling.  The grant is led by the University of Southampton, and involves also the universities of Sheffield and St Andrews.

You should have a PhD in theoretical physics and experience with both analytical and computational work. You should have evidence of your capacity to work as an independent researcher, for example through published papers. Experience of non-equilibrium or open quantum systems, and experience with polariton or other coupled matter-light systems are preferable, but not essential.  The role will also involve day-to-day supervision of students, and modest contributions to departmental teaching and the scientific organisation of the Programme.

This post is fixed until 30 August 2017 and will start on 1 November 2015 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Informal enquiries to Dr J Keeling: jmjk@st-andrews.ac.uk

The University of St Andrews is committed to promoting equality of opportunity for all, which is further demonstrated through its working on the Gender and Race Equality Charters and being awarded the Athena SWAN award for women in science, HR Excellence in Research Award and the LGBT Charter;  http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/hr/edi/diversityawards/.
