Title
Support Adviser - SB1621
Vacancy Description
Student Services, Salary: £25,513 - £30,434 per annum, Start: As soon as possible
Details
Applications are invited for the post of Support Adviser in Student Services. This unit consists of a multi-disciplinary team, providing assistance to students during the day with any issue that proves problematic to their lives at University, whether academic, financial, emotional or practical. At night pastoral support is provided via the Wardennial service in halls of residence.

The Support Advice team currently has 3 members of staff and they are the first point of contact for students in difficulty or distress. Support Advisers undertake an initial assessment of the situation, supplying immediate intervention and referring appropriately to the range of internal and external services available for additional or more specific support. They support students experiencing crisis situations until appropriate referrals have been activated. They also carry responsibility for ongoing liaison with external agencies, identifying where an appropriate provision of service exists and initiating projects to establish provision where it does not. They additionally seek feedback from time to time about the student’s experience of further support.

It is essential that applicants have extensive experience of working with young people who are in distress and of working in a multi-disciplinary team setting, providing reactive and appropriate help and advice with a calm, warm manner.

This is a full time position but we would consider employing two part-time staff on a job share basis. The unit works extended hours in term-time of 9am-7pm from Monday to Friday and from 10am-2pm on a Saturday.  This post holder will be asked to be one of the main people covering the early evening shift and the Saturday mornings, and time off would be taken at other points of the day/week to compensate.

Informal enquiries can be made to Maggie Winton, Email: mw11@st-andrews.ac.uk or Tel: 01334 462720.

The University of St Andrews is committed to promoting equality of opportunity for all, which is further demonstrated through its working on the Gender and Race Equality Charters and being awarded the Athena SWAN award for women in science, HR Excellence in Research Award and the LGBT Charter;  http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/hr/edi/diversityawards/.
