Details
We are seeking a Laboratory Coordinator who will be responsible for coordinating and assisting with behavioural and neuroimaging studies with children and infants. Research projects will span the development of causal learning, prosocial behaviour, intentional communication, and social cognition more broadly. Research will be conducted with infants, toddlers, and young children. Primary responsibilities include recruiting and scheduling study participants and maintaining participant records, assisting PIs in training and managing undergraduate research assistants, testing children, and initiating and maintaining relationships with nurseries, museums and other recruitment sites. Other activities include data entry, coding, purchasing and maintenance of equipment, and generally facilitating research in the lab. Travel to offsite testing locations, as well as some weekend testing, will be expected. The appointee will be managing the Developmental Research Laboratory, used by Professor Malinda Carpenter, Dr Amanda Seed, Dr Sarah Gerson, Dr Juan Carlos Gomez and other developmental staff and students.

The successful candidate will have a degree in a relevant subject (such as psychology, education, human development or cognitive science), and may have a further degree, such a masters or PhD in developmental psychology or a related field.  However, this position could represent an excellent opportunity, for the right candidate, of pursuing a part-time PhD in Developmental Psychology at a reduced cost.

We are looking for a candidate with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, exceptional written and oral communication skills, computer literacy, and previous research experience in a related field. We are particularly interested in motivated self-starters who are flexible, resourceful, organized, and work well both independently and as part of a team. Previous research experience with children is highly desirable. Other skills that are desirable, but not required, include experience developing and maintaining databases and websites, and experience with Photoshop, Flash or other image and animation software. The post will involve taking an active role in several research projects. Depending on the successful candidate’s level of experience, there would also be opportunities to play a role in the publication process, though this is not a requirement of the post.

The initial period will be for 3 years, with the possibility of extending to a long-term position for the right candidate. The candidate will be an active member of a dynamic research group.

*appointment at grade 6 (salary £31,342 - £37,394 per annum) will be considered for candidates with more experience/knowledge of the area with the job description to be altered accordingly.
