Title
Research Fellow in Homogeneous Catalysis - SB1641
Vacancy Description
School of Chemistry, Salary: £31,342 - £37,394 per annum, Start: 1 July 2015 or as soon as possible thereafter, Fixed term for 18 months
Details
A position is available to work in the research group of Matt Clarke in the School of Chemistry. The core activity in Matt’s group is Greener Synthesis enabled by Catalysis, and this job would involve working on the further development of Enantioselective Catalysts for both Rh catalysed Hydroformylation and Pd catalysed carbonylation of alkenes. The project will involve carrying some mechanistic studies on our catalysts, synthesis of third generation systems and some applications.  For initial publications on these catalysts, see: Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2010, 49, 9197, Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2012, 51, 2477; Chem. Commun. 2013, 49, 3306; Chem. Commun. 2014, 50, 1475.

You will hold (at the time of appointment) a PhD in Organic, Organometallic or Physical Organic Chemistry. Your research background will almost certainly have involved studies on either the development of homogeneous catalysts or the study of their mechanism. The post is supported by the EPSRC and is available for 18 months, starting from the July 1st or a mutually convenient time not too far removed from this.

While forming no part of official criteria, applications are particularly welcome from women, who are currently under-represented in these posts at the University.  You can find out more about Equality & Diversity at https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/hr/edi/.
