We are seeking an individual to fulfill the role of GeoBus Education Officer. GeoBus is a major outreach project that has been run by the Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences for over 4 years, and it is funded by RCUK and industry. The project provides teaching support for STEM subjects under a framework of Earth and environmental science, and it brings new and novel resources to schools (specimens, equipment, and research-led teaching packages). It is directed by Dr Ruth Robinson, and the daily running of the project is undertaken by three staff: the GeoBus Coordinator (Ms Kathryn Roper), an Education Officer (this post), and an Assistant Education Officer (Mr Sean Doherty). The Education Officer and Assistant Education Officer provide support to the GeoBus Coordinator in organizing school visits and teaching workshops in schools around Scotland. The Education Officer also has full responsibility for all social networking to broadcast GeoBus activities. We seek an enthusiastic and motivated person for this post who has a BSc degree in Geology, Earth Sciences or Geosciences, experience working with pupils of secondary school age, and a Full and clean UK Driving License.  

GeoBus is a mobile teaching resource reaching around 10,000 – 12,000 pupils and about 100 schools around Scotland in urban, rural and remote areas each year. In addition to the support role for project coordination and delivery of teaching, the Education Officer will participate in workshop development with the Education coordinator, Director and academic staff at the University of St Andrews; a sister project has recently been launched at UCL and GeoBus resources will be co-developed with staff there. The position involves travel around Scotland with overnight stays in hotels, and the successful candidate must be able to spend up to 4 nights a week away from home. The position may also involve travel to conferences in Europe and the USA.
