Genetics of selective breeding in farmed fish   A postdoctoral research fellow Grade 6 is required to work on an EU H2020 project under the supervision of Professor Ian A. Johnston (iaj@st-andrews.ac.uk) and Dr Daniel Garcia de la serrana (dgdlsc@st-andrews.ac.uk) involving a cluster of Europe’s leading Research Infrastructures in the field of marine biotechnology (see http://www.embrc.eu/node/612) .  The successful candidate will work with academic partners from France, Greece and the UK as well as several SMEs across Europe on a research and development activity involving the genetics of selective breeding in farmed finfish and shellfish.  The project will involve developing standard methods for trait measurement and genome-wide analysis of associated genetic variation. The person appointed will work closely with staff at the European Bioinformatics Institute and ELIXIR partners to develop bioinformatics pipelines for RAD-seq analysis, genome resequencing and mapping, paralogue detection and copy number variation (CNV).  We are looking for somebody with a good familiarity of basic molecular techniques including RNA/DNA extraction, cloning and quantitative PCR and extensive bioinformatics experience including knowledge of C+, Linux, Python, Pearl script and use of general bioinformatics tools and programs. Previous experience with the statistical analyses of genomic data sets would be an advantage. A PhD in molecular biology or bioinformatics and several years’ postdoctoral experience is required.
