We are seeking to appoint an outstanding researcher to a Chair in Marine Biology within the School of Biology (http://biology.st-andrews.ac.uk/).  Applicants for the post should have an excellent track record of funding and significant publications in marine biology. Proven qualities of academic leadership and a commitment to interdisciplinary research are essential. Support will be provided to establish a world-class research group in St Andrews. All fields of marine biology will be considered, particularly applicants with interests in aquaculture and food security, biogeochemistry, climate and ecosystem services, or marine microbiology/virology.

The successful candidate will become Director of the Scottish Oceans Institute (SOI) (http://soi.st-andrews.ac.uk/).  The SOI is an interdisciplinary Institute sponsored by the Schools of Biology, Geography & Geosciences and Mathematics & Statistics at the University of St Andrews. SOI provides a focus for all the research and postgraduate teaching in marine sciences within the University and is host for the Directorate of the Marine Alliance for Science and Technology Scotland (MASTS) and the Sea Mammal Research Unit (SMRU), a Collaborative Centre of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) of the UK. SOI scientific staff includes 58 research-active principal investigators, 57 research fellows, 26 technicians and engineers plus other support staff. The primary responsibility of the Director of SOI is to provide academic leadership in the marine sciences, to foster interdisciplinary interactions between the participating academic schools, to and develop the infrastructure of the SOI-Gatty Marine Laboratory.

The successful candidate will be appointed Professor in the School of Biology.
