We wish to appoint a lecturer (Grade 7 of our salary
scale) within the Department of Philosophy. This will be a 0.6 FTE fixed term
contract for 48 months, commencing on January 1st, 2025.
The main goal of the post is to provide a teaching
replacement for Dr. Aaron Cotnoir and Prof. Franz Berto, who have their teaching
duties reduced until December 31st, 2028, to carry out research in
projects funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council
(EPSRC) and the Leverhulme Trust. The lecturer is expected to provide teaching
in the areas of logic and metaphysics at all levels of our undergraduate
curriculum as well as in the MLitt. We currently offer a range of modules in
logic, ranging from basic to intermediate and advanced; we offer metaphysics
modules at Honours (advanced undergraduate) level and in the MLitt; metaphysics
is also taught within larger modules at sub-Honours (beginning undergraduate)
level. The post holder will give lectures, seminars, tutorials, and may be asked
to coordinate modules and carry out other standard teaching and administrative
tasks as required. As the post is tied to externally funded grants, it will not
be renewed.
The lecturer is also to participate in departmental
research: they will be affiliated to our Arché Research Centre, where they will
attend and present their research in advanced seminars.
Applicants must hold a PhD in philosophy or a cognate discipline by
