We wish to appoint a fixed-term Lecturer in Archaeology and Ancient History within the School of Classics. This opportunity has arisen as a result of the appointment of Professor Rebecca Sweetman to the Directorship of the British School at Athens. The successful candidates will be a scholar with a growing international research reputation with the expertise to deliver high-quality teaching in archaeological skills and approaches, to develop attractive and specialist modules in the areas of their research, as well as to contribute to our provision in ancient history more widely. We are open to appointing candidates with a wide range of research specialisms in material culture, but we have a special interest in candidates with expertise in the history and archaeology of the eastern Mediterranean. The post is fixed term for 5 years from 1 September 2022.

 

The successful candidate will be expected to be active in research publication and impact, and demonstrate an interest in promoting knowledge exchange. A commitment to research-led teaching and the ability to communicate with undergraduate and taught postgraduate students from a wide range of backgrounds is essential. Rebecca Sweetman normally offers a biennial Honours module, Footsteps of the Ancients, involving a two-week field trip to Greece. A willingness to continue this module, or offer a similar experience elsewhere, may be an advantage. Familiarity with grant-seeking processes in relation to research councils and other sources is desirable.
