School of Philosophical, Anthropological & Film Studies, Department of Social Anthropology, Salary: £32,548 - £38,833 per annum, Start: 1 September 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter, Fixed term for 3 years

The Department of Social Anthropology, with funding provided by the European Research Council (under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Programme/ERC grant agreement 715146), is sponsoring a project entitled The Ethics of Oil: Finance Moralities and Environmental Politics in the Global Oil Economy (ENERGYETHICS).

The project is led by Dr Mette M. High (Principal Investigator) and runs at the University of St Andrews from 1 July 2017 to 30 June 2022. The project team will consist of two PhD candidates and one postdoctoral research fellow who will work independently and in collaboration with each other and the PI.

The post will be held for 3 years, starting 1 September 2018 to 31 August 2021.

Applicants will have, or will be about to be awarded, a PhD in anthropology or a closely related discipline. They will have a strong interest in fields such as finance and economic life, risk and value, morality and ethics, energy and climate change, corporations and organisations.

Applicants must submit a writing sample in support of their application. This can be any published work up to 10,000 words or a thesis chapter. Based on the project brief offered below, applicants must also submit their own provisional research ideas in the form of a research proposal up to 3,000 words. The proposal will include information on theoretical interests, relevant literature and methodological strategies.
