Research Fellow in Computer Science - AR1972SB
School of Computer Science

School of Computer Science, Salary: £32,004 - £33,943 per annum, Start: 1 November 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter, Fixed term for 3 years

A Research Fellow position in constraint modelling and solving is available at the School of Computer Science within the University of St Andrews. This is a fixed-term position for 3 years, starting 1 November 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.

This position is part of the EPSRC-funded “Modelling and Optimisation with Graphs” (EP/P026842/1) project, which will combine the St Andrews Constraint Modelling Pipeline with Graph Solvers built at the University of Glasgow to automate the compilation of an abstract specification of a combinatorial problem downs to a variety of systematic and metaheuristic solving formalisms, including Graph solvers.

Under the direction of Dr Christopher Jefferson, the role will involve the development of our Conjure automated constraint modelling system to add Graph variables and constraints, and then to refine those variables and constraints to high quality constraint models. A background in constraint modelling, graph problems, or the Haskell programming language would be an advantage.

For an informal discussion about the post you are welcome to contact Dr Christopher Jefferson: caj21@st-andrews.ac.uk

The appointment may be offered on either a full-time or part-time basis, and flexible working may be available to suit the right applicant.

Applications are particularly welcomed from women and other groups that are under-represented in Research posts at the University.

The University is committed to equality for all, demonstrated through our working on diversity awards (ECU Athena SWAN/Race Charters; Carer Positive; LGBT Charter; and Stonewall).  More details can be found at http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/hr/edi/diversityawards/.
