School of Geography and Sustainable Development, Salary: £27,025 - £32,236 per annum*, Start Date: As soon as possible, Fixed Term for 2 years

We are seeking to appoint a talented Research Assistant/Fellow to join a large international, interdisciplinary research project investigating antimicrobial resistance in East Africa. The HATUA consortium (Holistic Approach to Unravelling Antibiotic Resistance in East Africa) is an international collaboration between the UK, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and the US, funded by the National Institutes of Health Research (NIHR), and brings together expertise from medicine, microbiology, biology and social sciences. The purpose of the role will be to provide key data management support for data being collected during the fieldwork period, and to conduct statistical analysis to investigate the drivers of antimicrobial resistance. The successful post holder will be handling large scale linked quantitative medical and social science data, and would be required to perform statistical analysis to an advanced level (training and support will be provided). The background of the candidate will be preferably postgraduate training or experience in medical statistics, biostatistics, applied mathematics, or analysis of large scale social science data.

The candidate will be based in the School of Geography and Sustainable Development within the Population and Health Research Group (https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/gsd/research/phrg/), one of the largest groups in the Uk researching the geographies of population, health and housing. The postholder but would be working closely across schools with colleagues in Schools of Medicine (See http://medicine.st-andrews.ac.uk/research/), Biology (see: https://synergy.st-andrews.ac.uk/research/) and the School of Mathematics and Statistics. They would also play a key role in the HATUA consortium by working alongside data analysts in East Africa, and be involved in capacity building activities. There would be the opportunity for international travel and collaboration with East Africa partners.
