Research Fellow - AR2038HM
School of Biology

School of Biology, Salary: £32,548 - £38,833 per annum, Start Date: As soon as possible , Fixed Term for 1 year

The Biomedical Sciences Research Complex (BSRC) at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, is seeking applications for a highly motivated research fellow to join a dynamic research group that is working on behalf of a biotechnology company spun-out of the University. The group’s main focus is the development and application of novel treatment solutions for unmet clinical needs, in particular, infectious diseases and oncology, using its proprietary technology of protein biologics based on carbohydrate binding modules (CBMs) that target host glycans on the surface of mammalian cells.

With expansion of work within the group, it is seeking to recruit a highly experienced research fellow who can demonstrate the ability to help advance the research of CBM biologics. The successful candidate will ideally have expertise in cell biology and immunology with extensive knowledge of anti-cancer therapies. Good technical laboratory experience in mammalian cell culture, protein, molecular and cell biology, and immunological methodologies is essential. The successful candidate will also have access to state-of-the-art facilities in the BSRC. Facilities include protein expression and purification capabilities, a biophysics suite for protein characterisation (SPR, CD, ITC, stopped-flow kinetics), X-ray and NMR, a mass spectrometry and proteomics facility, bacterial and mammalian cell culture facilities, imaging suite housing four microscope systems (fluorescence, light, and two confocals), as well as other general equipment for various assay development and screening.

The post is offered on a fixed term contract of 1 year, in the first instance, and is available immediately.

Informal enquiries can be made to Dr Helen Connaris (group leader) at hc6@st-andrews.ac.uk.

The University is committed to equality for all, demonstrated through our working on diversity awards (ECU Athena SWAN/Race Charters; Carer Positive; LGBT Charter; and Stonewall).  More details can be found at http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/hr/edi/diversityawards/.
