Research Fellow – AR2642GB
School of Computer Science

School of Computer Science Salary: £34,304 – £37,467 per annum £34,304 – £37,467 per annum pro rata Start Date: 1 June 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter Fixed Term: 12 months with the possibility to extend for another 12 months

Applications are sought for an enthusiastic Post-doctoral Research Fellow to work with Dr Juan Ye, conducting research for a Leverhulme funded project entitled Elastic Neural Network for Continual Learning. The project is to design and develop a new generation of neural networks, ElasticNet, for continual learning. With it, we aim to significantly reduce the parameter space of a neural network that supports continual learning and its training cost, thus making it amenable to be deployed on resource- constrained devices.

The successful applicant will have a PhD in Computer Science with a background and experience in deep neural networks, preferably with expertise in any of the following subfields: continual learning, transfer learning, and reinforcement learning.

The post is available for 12 months with the possibility to extend it for further 12 months, starting 1 June 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.

*There is the option to apply for the post on a full time basis (36.25 hours per week) or a part time basis (20 hours per week), we welcome applications for both part-time and full-time options.**

Informal enquiries can be directed to Dr. Juan Ye (juan.ye@st-andrews.ac.uk).

Applications are particularly welcome from women, people from the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community, and other protected characteristics who are under-represented in research posts at the University.

Equality, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of the St Andrews experience. We strive to create a fair and inclusive culture demonstrated through our commitment to diversity awards (Athena Swan, Carer Positive, LGBT Charter, Race Charters and Stonewall). We celebrate diversity by promoting profiles of BAME, LGBTIQ+ staff and supporting networks including the Staff BAME Network; Staff with Disabilities Network; Staff LGBTIQ+ Network; and the Staff Parents & Carers Network.
