Research Fellow in Modern History: St Andrews and the legacies of Empire – AR2540NB

School of History Salary: £33,797 - £40,322 per annum Start Date: 2 August 2021, or as soon as possible thereafter Fixed Term: 12 months

Applications are invited for a fixed-term Research Fellowship in Modern History.  

This is a full-time position, on a fixed term contract of 12 months.  

You will be expected to pursue historical research into St Andrews’ formal and informal connections with empire in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. As well as pursuing research of your own design, you will play a major role in setting the agenda for the development of the University’s plans to investigate and recognize the legacies of its involvement in imperial projects, including historic slavery and colonial violence, and to act upon that knowledge.  

You will be based in the School of History but will also be actively involved in wider institutional workstreams. You will produce an institutional report on your investigations at the end of the fellowship and will work under the guidance of Professor Aileen Fyfe (School of History) and Dr Katie Stevenson (Vice-Principal for Collections, Music and Digital Content).  

Applicants should have completed a PhD in a related topic before 2 August 2021.
