School of Chemistry Salary: £42,149 - £51,799 per annum Start Date: 1 September 2022 (or as soon as possible thereafter)

The School of Chemistry at the University of St Andrews aims to appoint a Lecturer (Education Focused) in Inorganic Chemistry from 1 September 2022.  

 

St Andrews Chemistry is a dynamic teaching and research environment with around 40 Academic staff, about 140 PhD students and 60 PDRAs. Our undergraduate courses are delivered across five years up to MChem level. In addition, the School runs postgraduate taught degrees (MSc Chemical Sciences and MSc Catalysis).

 

We welcome applications from outstanding candidates who have developed an interest and expertise in undergraduate teaching. The position will have a focus on inorganic chemistry and the successful applicant will have an aptitude for teaching across all aspects of our undergraduate curriculum. A PhD in an appropriate area of Chemistry is essential, and you will already have demonstrated an aptitude for teaching at university level. The successful applicant will report to the Head of Inorganic Chemistry and be required:

 

1. To teach inorganic chemistry at all levels of our undergraduate and taught postgraduate degree programmes through lectures, tutorials and laboratory classes.

 

2. To be involved in the organisation and leadership of inorganic teaching (Lectures and Practicals) through modules coordinator roles.

 

3. To deliver innovation in the delivery of inorganic chemistry teaching in support of existing courses.

 

4. To help integrate different aspects of the inorganic chemistry curriculum within a problem-based approach.

 

5. To develop practical and analytical skills of students through introduction of innovative laboratory experiments at Sub-Honours and Honours levels.

 

6.  To play a role in the development and delivery of Outreach activities.

 

7. To play a role in the administrative activities within the School
