School of Philosophical, Anthropological & Film Studies, Salary: £32,548 per annum, Start Date: 1 January 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter, Fixed Term: 9 months

The Department of Social Anthropology, with funding provided by the European Research Council (under the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme/ERC grant agreement no 336564), is sponsoring a project entitled Visual Representations of the Third Plague Pandemic

The project, led by Dr Christos Lynteris (PI), will run at the University of St Andrews from 1 October 2017 to 30 September 2018. The project team will consist of two postdoctoral research associates who will work independently and in collaboration with each other and the director of the project.

The post will be held for 9 months, starting 1 January 2018, or as soon as possible thereafter until 30 September 2018.

Applicants must hold a good first degree and a PhD in a relevant field of research (anthropology, history, visual studies, regional studies).  Applications are encouraged with regard to any relevant field of studies, including medical history, visual history, medical anthropology, visual anthropology, visual studies and regional studies. Applicants who can demonstrate experience in a) medical historical/anthropological research on plague (Yersinia pestis); and/or b) medical historical/anthropological research on the visual representation of epidemic diseases, are also encouraged to apply regardless of regional research experience.

Applicants must submit a writing sample in support of their application.  This can be any published work up to 10,000 words or a thesis chapter.
