School of Biology, Biomedical Sciences Research Complex, Salary: £26,052 per annum pro rata, Start: July 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter, Fixed term for 3 years

The School of Biology, Biomedical Sciences Research Complex, at the University of St Andrews seeks to appoint a Part Time Research Technician (18.125 hours per week). The post will be for 36 months and is funded by the Medical Research Council.

The successful candidate will support the research activities of a team led by Dr Michael Nevels studying host cell interactions of the human cytomegalovirus (CMV). CMV is a leading cause of birth defects and life-threatening disease in immunosuppressed patients. The work will involve a range of standard tissue culture as well as virology and molecular biology techniques. Besides, the post will comprise organisational tasks including maintenance of lab stocks, ordering of lab supplies and keeping of lab records.

Applicants should be highly motivated and reliable, willing to carefully follow standard protocols and able to work as part of a team. They should hold at least a BSc degree in the Biological Sciences or a similar discipline, with practical experience in tissue culture and molecular biology being desirable.

Initial training in the pertinent techniques will be provided. You will join an active research group working in well-equipped laboratories.
