Learning and Engagement Manager – AD1525GB
University Library

Libraries and Museums Salary: £34,304 - £40,927 per annum Start Date: as soon as possible

Libraries and Museums

The University of St Andrews is Scotland’s first university, founded in 1413. Like the University, its Libraries and Museums are rooted in and draw inspiration from this 600-year history of research and teaching, and the pursuit of knowledge for the common good.

We steward and share the University’s nationally- and internationally-important collections, we are an active partner in University research and teaching, and we engage people everywhere with the intellectual and cultural life of St Andrews.

This mission supports the University strategy and ambition – aligned to the five core ideas of social responsibility, and of a world-leading, diverse, global and entrepreneurial St Andrews; demonstrating a determination to move forward with purpose, integrity, and success: Ever to Excel.

Learning and Engagement Manager

The University’s Museums are seeking a Learning and Engagement Manager to develop and deliver an ambitious and engaging programme of creative events and experiences that reimagine what a university museum can be, working with the core themes of the Museums’ strategic plan.

The postholder will mix physical and digital engagement to create a blended experience for a range of audiences and communities. Digital tools will be a core part of delivery and experience in this area is vital. The Learning and Engagement Manager will also lead on developing resources and programmes that use the Museums’ cultural assets to support mental health and wellbeing among the University community, and will play a key role in helping to make the new Wardlaw Museum into a student hub that is central to life at St Andrews. Creating innovative approaches to family and public programing that makes research accessible will be another key part of this post.

The Learning and Engagement Manager will actively market the Museums’ activities, delivering campaigns that reach our target audiences and engage them with our big ideas. The post holder will work with colleagues across the University to develop ambitious, creative and accessible exhibitions that engage audiences with research, and will be part of the teaching team for the Museum and Heritage Studies MLitt programme.

Further information and informal enquiries may be directed to Matthew Sheard, Head of Experience and Engagement, email: mjs42@st-andrews.ac.uk

Applications are particularly welcome from women, people from the Black, Asian, Minority or Ethnic (BAME) community and other protected characteristics who are under-represented in professional services posts at the University, and in museum-sector roles at this level.

Equality, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of the St Andrews experience. We strive to create a fair and inclusive culture demonstrated through our commitment to diversity awards (Athena Swan, Carer Positive, LGBT Charter, Race Charters and Stonewall). We celebrate diversity by promoting profiles of BAME, LGBTIQ+ staff and supporting networks including the Staff BAME Network; Staff with Disabilities Network; Staff LGBTIQ+ Network; and the Staff Parents & Carers Network. Full details available online: https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/hr/edi/

This role does not meet the minimum requirements set by the UKVI to enable sponsorship of migrant workers. Further information can be found at https://www.gov.uk/check-uk-visa/

This post may be primarily based at the Eden Campus at Guardbridge, a state-of-the-art working environment for professional services units.
