School of Philosophical, Anthropological & Film Studies, Department of Social Anthropology, Salary: £22,214 - £25,728 per annum, pro rata, Start Date: 6 November 2017, or as soon as possible thereafter, Hours of work: 14.5 per week

The Department of Social Anthropology is seeking to recruit a Departmental Secretary who will be responsible for day-to-day running of the Departmental Office in Social Anthropology.  You will be responsible for the administration of the Honours and Postgraduate teaching programmes and associated research activities and will work closely with the Head of Department, the Director of Teaching, the Director of Postgraduates, the Honours Co-ordinator and the Examinations Officer in executing these responsibilities. You will act as the first point of contact for these matters in the Department and will deal with telephone, email and face-to face queries from staff, students and external visitors.  You will also be responsible for the routine aspects of financial matters within the Department.  

You will also work with other members of the administrative team to provide administrative support for all operations and activities within the Department of Social Anthropology and, as such, you should be able to operate both independently and as an effective team member.  

You will be educated to at least HNC/HND level with a minimum of three years’ experience in an office environment.  You will have experience of dealing with financial records and processes and a high degree of computer literacy with a willingness to learn to use in-house databases and systems.  You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, you will be well-organised with meticulous attention to detail and you will have the ability to prioritise a varied workload and to meet deadlines.
