Title
Research Fellow - AR1288MR
Vacancy Description
School of Chemistry, Salary: £31,656 - £33,574 per annum, Fixed Term: Up to 2 years, Start: As soon as possible
Details

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow to work with Dr Euan Kay in the School of Chemistry at the University of St Andrews on a Leverhulme Trust funded project at the interface of synthetic supramolecular chemistry and catalytic nanoparticles.

The project seeks to develop dynamic molecular monolayers for noble metal nanocatalysts as a new strategy to simultaneously optimize nanoparticle stability and catalytic activity. This builds on our recent work developing dynamic covalent [Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., 2015, 54, 4187] and noncovalent [Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., 2013, 52, 1165] mechanisms for controlling the properties of monolayer-stabilized nanoparticles.

The successful candidate will have (or be about to obtain) a PhD in synthetic chemistry or related subject. A strong background in some or all of molecular synthesis, supramolecular chemistry (e.g. dynamic covalent chemistry, interlocked molecules, host–guest binding systems) or colloidal nanomaterials is required. The appointee will be expected to present their work both internally and externally, and will also be expected to take some responsibility for the day-to-day running of the laboratory, including supervision and training of postgraduate and undergraduate research students.

Funded by the Leverhulme Trust, this post is available for up to two years.

Informal enquiries can be directed to:  Dr Euan Kay (email: ek28@st-andrews.ac.uk; Tel: +44 (0)1334 467284; homepage: http://kaylab.wp.st-andrews.ac.uk).

Applications are particularly welcome from women who are under-represented in Science posts at the University.  You can find out more about Equality and Diversity at https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk.hr.edi/.
