Institute for Capitalizing on Creativity, School of Management, £20,559 per annum, Fixed Term for 21 months

A Knowledge Transfer Partnership Associate is required by the Institute for Capitalizing on Creativity for a collaborative project with Creative Scotland to identify successful strategies for the management, commercialization and exploitation of Intellectual Property in the creative industries in Scotland.

The post is full-time for 21 months, starting 1 April 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter, and is funded by the Economic & Social Research Council, Technology Strategy Board and Creative Scotland. You will work closely with ICC, Creative Scotland and other organisations and will be based at Creative Scotland’s Edinburgh offices. The project will inform Creative Scotland’s leading and coordinating role for creative industries investment strategy.

The project’s key objectives include:
• analysis of current strategies for IP exploitation and commercialization across the range of creative industries
• Identification of best practice models for IP management
• Development of diagnostic practitioner tool-kit
• Recommendations of future investment guidelines for Creative Scotland
• Development of dissemination programme to practitioners  You will support the

objectives of the research project by:
• Prioritising own workload within agreed objectives and schedule
• Assisting in identifying pertinent research questions
• Applying as appropriate theoretical perspectives from related fields
• Sourcing and critiquing relevant literature
• Collating and undertaking preliminary analysis of data
• Assisting in developing and testing strategies and models
• Initial interpretation of  research results and proposing recommendations for both non-specialist and specialist scholarly audiences

You should be degree educated in a relevant field (e.g.  management, economics or related areas) with a  postgraduate qualification in management, intellectual property law or economics being an advantage.  You should have knowledge of and research interest in a relevant area, with broad interests in Intellectual Property and Creative Industries generally as well as an interest in and aptitude for knowledge exchange with practitioners, private and not-for-profit organisations and non-specialist audiences.  The ability to undertake tasks without constant close supervision is essential.
