Details
We seek a Research Fellow for a three year EPSRC funded project on detection and resolution of conflicts in clinical pathways.

In a clinical setting, processes are complex and are influenced by a number of social, technical and organisational factors. This complexity can result in variations in how physicians practice, appropriate care is documented, and healthcare costs managed. As a result clinical guidelines have emerged based on the best existing practices with the aim of supporting staff and improving the quality of healthcare. Clinical guidelines exist for treating individual long-term conditions but rarely consider the presence of additional co-morbidities despite evidence that there is growing prevalence of chronic diseases and these often develop simultaneously.

The research fellow should contribute to the understanding and development of theoretical foundations and formal techniques required to compose clinical pathways and detect conflicts when treating patients with co-morbidities. In addition, this work will tie closely with the design and development of software frameworks for automated detection of conflicts in models representing clinical guidelines. This includes liaising with project partners at the University of Birmingham.

You should have a good undergraduate degree in (Theoretical) Computer Science, Informatics, Mathematics or related discipline, and have, or be about to obtain, a PhD in Computer Science. You will have a strong background in formal methods with experience in modelling, logics and formal verification (model checking, constraint solvers or SAT solvers), and good software development/programming language skills. You should be a highly motivated individual and be able to lead the day-to-day work, and managing the deliverable schedule. You should be able to communicate complex information clearly to a wider audience, and be able to collaborate successfully with software developers, clinicians and researchers from the healthcare domain.

Informal enquiries should be directed to Dr Juliana Küster Filipe Bowles at:
