Details

The University of St Andrews (Scotland, UK) is seeking an ambitious postdoctoral researcher to work on galaxy evolution in the framework of the European Research Council funded project “SEDmorph”. The successful applicant will be funded for 4 years to work with the PI of this ERC project, Dr Vivienne Wild, in St Andrews' Astronomy Group in Scotland. The research project involves the combined analysis of spectral energy distributions and morphologies of galaxies in both spectroscopic and multi-wavelength galaxy surveys, from low to high redshift, alongside systematic comparisons to statistical galaxy evolution and merger simulations. More details about the project are available at http://www-star.st-and.ac.uk/~vw8/SEDmorph/welcome.html

The candidate is expected to have a PhD in astronomy with relevant experience in the field of galaxy evolution, including the analysis and interpretation of large astronomical datasets and/or the development and analysis of models of galaxy formation and evolution. The position will involve collaboration with researchers in Germany, Finland and Australia. The position includes funding for travel and priority access to a computer cluster.

The School of Physics & Astronomy of the University of St Andrews offers a vibrant and interactive working environment, with 40% of the astronomy staff members being women. For more information about the Astronomy group, see http://star-www.st-and.ac.uk/astronomy.
