The University of St Andrews has recently secured Wellcome Trust ISSF Funding including a substantive amount for Public Engagement with Research. We are seeking a dynamic, innovative individual with extensive experience of public engagement with science to be our Public Engagement Officer.

The successful applicant will maintain and enrich a programme of engagement activities designed to inspire interest, stimulate debate, and engage in dialogue with public groups about the future of the University’s research. You will inspire and work with researchers in engaging with public groups, identify training needs and arrange appropriate training. You will work closely with the University Head of Public Engagement and the internal Public Engagement Facilitators’ network to embed public engagement within the broader University strategy.

You will be educated to degree level in a science subject. You will have extensive experience of working in public engagement with science, and of managing projects and events successfully. You will have excellent communication skills including demonstrable well developed abilities and judgment in using social media. You will be highly self-motivated, able to work alone and in concert with others, and capable of working with people at all levels of seniority.

The post is available for three years in the first instance.
