Title
Research Fellow in Computer Science - AR1883SB
Vacancy Description
School of Computer Science, Salary: £32,004 per annum, Start: April 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter, Fixed term for 42 months
Details
A Research Fellow position in constraint modelling and solving is available at the School of Computer Science within the University of St Andrews. This is a fixed-term position for 42 months, starting in April 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.

This position is part of the EPSRC-funded “A Constraint Modelling Pipeline” (EP/P015638/1) project, which involves the development of the St Andrews Constraint Modelling Pipeline to automate the compilation of an abstract specification of a combinatorial problem down to a variety of systematic and metaheuristic solving formalisms.

Under the direction of Prof Ian Miguel, the role will involve the development of our Conjure automated constraint modelling system to produce a varied collection of high quality constraint models automatically from an abstract specification. It will also involve the automated selection of a subset of these models for encoding via our Savile Row system to particular solving formalisms. Therefore, a background in machine learning or constraint modelling experience would be an advantage.

For an informal discussion about the post you are welcome to contact Prof Ian Miguel: ijm@st-andrews.ac.uk.

The appointments may be offered on either a full-time or part-time basis, and flexible working may be available to suit the right applicant.

Applications are particularly welcomed from women and other groups that are under-represented in Research posts at the University.

The University of St Andrews is committed to promoting equality of opportunity for all, which is further demonstrated through its working on the Gender and Race Equality Charters and being awarded the Athena SWAN award for women in science, HR Excellence in Research Award and the LGBT Charter;  http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/hr/edi/diversityawards/.
