We invite applications from highly motivated individuals with interests in Sustainable Development and a commitment to excellence in research and teaching. Areas of expertise sought include sustainable energy, low carbon behaviours, justice and inequality, energy and environmental planning, the politics of sustainability, social movements and anthropology. You will contribute to the highly successful degree programmes in Sustainable Development at St Andrews within the Department of Geography and Sustainable Development.  The position is fixed term for a period of 12 months, starting on 23 January, 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.

You will contribute primarily to the undergraduate Sustainable Development programme and may also make a specific contribution to the design and innovation in lower level undergraduate teaching.  The opportunity to contribute to teaching Sustainable Development across upper level undergraduate and taught postgraduate will also be available. You will make an active contribution to our research culture and to the enrichment of our academic community.

Your role will involve engaging the interest and motivation of students, and inspiring them to learn by fostering debate and developing their ability to engage with theory and practice.  You will work as a member of the core Sustainable Development team and will attend a residential field course devoted to social science research methods.  You will be encouraged to seek ways to improve performance by reflecting on teaching design and delivery, and by analysing feedback.  You will have excellent organisational and administrative skills, and the ability to communicate complex information and ideas effectively. 

You will have completed, or be about to complete, a PhD in Sustainable Development, Geography or a related area.  Those with research & teaching interests in any area of Sustainable Development will be considered but you will be expected to contribute to social scientific research training. Some experience with a range of teaching formats, including lectures, tutorials, seminars, field classes and the supervision of group work, would be an advantage, as would experience of teaching within the Scottish university system.
