Vacancy Description

Details
The University of St Andrews’ web presence has evolved over the past 10 years to become one of the key communication channels for a wide range of University audiences, both internal and external; for example, current and prospective students, staff, alumni, businesses and the general public.

The current visual design and information architecture structure of the website was updated in 2007 to focus more attention on the needs of the various site audiences outlined above. At this time content from all University support services was migrated into the University’s content management system, T4, re-architected and redesigned to provide a more consistent experience for the site visitor.  Academic School sites were not initially migrated in to T4 but over the past three years, five full School sites and a number of smaller sub-sites have been brought within the T4 framework.

The main purpose of this role is to complete the migration process of Academic School websites into T4.  Most School websites have static pages, but some include content from their own in-house systems or back-end databases, so an understanding of how different web technologies (e.g. PHP, SQL, JavaScript, Ajax) can be used to generate dynamic content is essential.  In addition, you will undertake other web related work as required.

You should be educated to degree standard or equivalent, have an excellent technical knowledge of web publishing, strong customer focus and well-developed interpersonal skills; the ability to work with staff at all levels in the organisation.  An excellent command of the English language together with highly developed presentation skills (both, written and oral) and the ability to convey complex information to variety of audiences are also essential skills.

Experience of either working in Higher Education, or within a large decentralised organisation is of paramount importance.
