Title
Research Fellow (MP function) - MR1609
Vacancy Description
Biomedical Sciences Research Complex, Salary: £31,342 - £34,223 per annum, Fixed term: 36 months, Start: As soon as possible
Details

We wish to recruit a postdoctoral research fellow to analyse the biophysical properties and behavior of plant virus ‘movement proteins’ (MPs) in the presence of membranes and RNA. Plant viruses, which include many important crop pathogens, encode MPs to transport megadalton-size infectious ribonucleoprotein complexes through intercellular nanochannels. The mechanism by which MPs achieve this is still unknown. The project will address this question using biophysical and biochemical analysis of purified MPs. The successful applicant must have demonstrated laboratory expertise (Industrial or Academic) in protein characterisation and biochemical assays. Experience working with proteoliposomes and protein complexes is desirable.

The post, which is available immediately, is fixed term for 36 months and is funded by the BBSRC.

Candidates must hold a PhD or be about to submit one.

Informal enquiries can be made to Dr Jens Tilsner (e-mail: jt58@st-andrews.ac.uk).
